The hollow was the perfect place to hide.
Or so Free’s dad thought. His plan: flee California with Free’s five-year-old brother illegally in tow, hide out in the mountains of West Virginia, make fast cash during ginseng season, then escape to a nicer place where the law can’t find them. Free isn’t thrilled about living in a holler alongside drug dealers and thieves, but she’s willing to do whatever it takes to keep her family safe. Unfortunately, with their father disappearing into the woods with increasing frequency, Free and her brother exist largely alone. Until their neighbor Cole appears with lots of questions.
Cole’s spent his entire life in the holler—and his entire life working out a way to leave his druggie mother and incarcerated brother. As the editor of the school newspaper, he’s an expert at getting to the bottom of a story, and he’s determined to crack Free—who seems un-crack-able.
When the family she was desperate to protect is ripped apart, Free turns to Cole for help, the only person willing. But while her plan escalates, Free can’t deny the pull she feels toward the boy with too many questions—and who holds just as many secrets. As they become closer, she finds that Cole might need her help as much as she needs his. (From: Goodreads)
Hey guys! Happy November!
How’s your week? If it weren’t an ordinary one, I hope it’s fabulous! 🙂 Mine was pretty typical as usual…until the cover drop for a book I’m highly anticipating came my way. ❤ Yep, you’ve got it right; it’s Jennifer Bardsley’s Narcosis Room indeed! It’s been FOREVER since I last participated in anything OWL HOLLOW PRESS related and for those who doesn’t know OHP, it’s a one-of-a-kind, created-by-the-most-amazing-people-in-the-world indie publisher, aiming to publish great books in genre fiction, contemporary, and non-fiction books.
Back to Narcosis Room, it’s a sci-fi novel which will be published in 2019 and let’s learn more about it…
P.S. There’ll be a giveaway by the end of the post so just keep reading on!
Hey guys!!! *waving enthusiastically*
How are you? I hope you’re having a fabulous day. Today I’ve got something really exciting to share with you and believe me, I’ve wanted to tell everyone about this super duper exhilarating book news since I learnt about it last week. 😀
First of all, I’m so honored to be offered a chance to announce the title for one of my all-time-favorite authors, Thomas Welsh‘s (author of Anna Undreaming), upcoming book, the sequel to Anna Undreaming. When he reached out to me via email last Tuesday, I, honestly, was
secretly doing happy dancing in an office with 100 people. LOL
Back to this title announcement, all I can say is that the title and official blurb of the book will definitely prompt you to devour the series. Trust me, I can already feel the epicness of book 2 in Metiks Fade trilogy simply by its title! And my instinct is usually right. 😉
Alright, enough rambling and let’s cut to the chase, shall we?
A man-god and his army of religious zealots swarmed the South nine years ago. As a child, Malik watched severed heads falling, blood spurting onto concrete, and his dear grandfather run through by a black sword.
But there’s peace…somewhere. At least that’s what Malik tells himself as his body is ripped apart by whips at a religious conversion camp. That’s what his best friend whispers as he frantically creates new force jetpacks to rescue Malik.
Yet when war bursts through the skies, and the sky troopers, assassins, and heroes fall—when the world comes crashing down—Malik Zzoha stands strong amidst the sands, infidel of the state number one.
Golden Skies is the first book in the The New Order trilogy. (From: Goodreads)
On the remnants of oil platforms in the Gulf of Mexico and Dauphin Island, Joe is a typical Nob Platform teenager, except that her Mom left a year ago for a more social Platform, and her Dad sometimes forgets she exists. But she knows she wants a career in Communications, so her high school senior project “See-Saw” focuses on long-distance underwater connections. Drayton, Joe’s best friend, discovers lights moving on Land at the same time Joe picks up SOS signals with her See-Saw.
Though Land has been silent since technology was destroyed during the Moralist Revolution, Joe and Drayton discover that the Platform Planning Commission (PPC) seems to be ultimately responsible for the Bone Virus that precipitated the Revolution. They enlist the help of Flox, a debunked scientist, to take them to Land to investigate the remnants of human Land society—before the PPC can stop them. What they find on Land will forever change the course of their lives and the lives of all Platform Dwellers.
Anna is a student surviving the city, and she lives by a simple credo, “Never play their game; their game is always rigged.” For every man she has ever known, it’s a saying that has served her well.
That all changes on the night of “The Big Storm,” when Anna is slipped a date rape drug. Though she saves herself and her best friend, Anna is lost to the dark heart of the city and finds herself hunted by The Night Collectors. Unsure if these monsters are real or hallucinations, Anna nonetheless fights them as best she can. The battle attracts a stranger—Teej—who saves her using powers she cannot understand. He explains that she is an Undreamer and possesses the same powers, and in the future, he will not be the one to save her. She will save him.
But Anna is not yet ready to join Teej and stand against The Dreamers. She has difficult decisions of her own to make. Decisions she has always run from. She still has her partner’s suicide letter. It remains unopened. She still wears his ring, though she can’t seem to remember his face.
Anna learns of The Dreamers – artists so preeminent in their respective fields that they can paint, dance, sew or sing new realities – and as she travels through their creations, she learns that there’s as much beauty in the world as there is horror. With a complex conspiracy at work within the community of Dreamers that threatens to undermine reality itself, Anna will have to look deep within herself, and eventually have to face the horrors of her own past, to save her old world as well as her new one.
Anna Undreaming is a dark urban fantasy, and the first book in the The Metiks Fade trilogy.
